Heat forces Xcel to flip energy saver switch; 325,000 homes affected
Xcel Energy this afternoon activated its hot-weather “Saver Switch” power management system for the first time in nearly three years, cycling on and off the central air conditioners for hundreds of thousands of Minnesota customers in order to ease the peak demand on its electricity load.
