Energy Saver Light Bulbs

Energy saver light bulbs have come a long way in a short time and are now almost the preferred choice of light bulb in the home.

Did you know that lighting will consume almost 25% of the energy in your home and that’s why it’s important to look towards energy saver light bulbs to decrease the cost of bringing light into your home. Those using the old incandescent bulbs will more likely be consuming more energy than those coverting to the new enery savers.

Led Light Bulbs

LED which stands for light emitting diodes is definitely the choice of savvy consumers today. They are even considered superior to the the CFL models which came along to offer energy saving choices for those using incandescent bulbs.

Led globes are so energy efficient that you could expect them to last for more than 50,000 hours which in many respects would mean they could even outlast the length of time you own a home. Would you ever have to change another light bulb in your home? Perhaps not? So why isn’t everyone turning to these energy efficient light emitters?

Cost is obviously the main reason and of course lack of education and human nature is such that we are creatures of habit. The cost factor is really only initial and once you have an LED globe in, this cost would easily be negated by the fact you would hardly ever have to replace it. Compare this to the number of times you would have to purchase the “old style” bulbs.

There are many advantages to installing LED lighting in your home. Apart from the obvious and that’s their lifespan, they have a solid state design and are much tougher and more durable than their competitors. And from a safety point-of-view, they contain no mercury which is a drawback and at times controversial aspect of their rivals.

LEDs can actually help reduce home lighting costs by anywhere up to 80% which most would take any day considering the cost of energy today. Rising energy costs in a weak economy can almost cripple a family’s budget and by installing LED lighting you will be going a long way in cutting this cost down to a more manageable level with energy saver light bulbs.

And their rapid development means that they can now be replicated by manufacturers in most of the traditional bulb styles people are accustomed to using. LED lighting doesn’t just stop in your home, it’s also available for your car so do yourself a favor if saving energy is something you’re craving and check out these amazing energy saver light bulbs.

In today’s word, where the prices of almost everything are rising up at a high speed, it is hard to find the cost effective electrical equipments. Energy efficient bulbs are most common in the market now days, which can reduce your electricity bills. There are majorly two types of energy saving bulbs such as CFL and LED, which come under Energy Saving Lighting equipments and both perform better than the traditional bulbs in terms of energy efficiency. CFL bulbs do not require special sockets to be installed, and you can screw them in the same sockets as other light bulbs to get efficient lighting. You can determine the efficiency of energy saving bulbs by comparing the amount of light produced to the energy consumed by them. So, you can save money and help the environment by using energy saving lightings techniques. Here are some of the benefits of the energy saving bulbs: Environmental Friendly: They are friendly to the environment and produces less carbon dioxide to the environment. In addition, using energy saving bulbs can preserve a lot of energy, which can be used in other important tasks. Flexibility: These bulbs can be used in most of the light fixture, and you can buy special type of CFL bulbs such as three way setting or two way setting bulbs to get unique type of lighting experience according to your choice. Long lasting: CFL bulbs are designed for the long-term use, so you can reap their benefits for long time. You can also find some of the CFL bulbs with the dimmer features in the market, which are capable to save the electricity consumption by its different modes. Energy Savers: These bulbs take more time to lit than the conventional bulbs, so the more you use them, more energy is saved in the end. In other words, switching on a CFL bulb for less than 10 minutes is less energy efficient or costly that using it for long time. According to a recent research, it is found that the energy efficient bulbs produce 90 to 112 lumens of energy per watt and consumes less energy, which is a huge plus for its immense benefits. Therefore, in order to keep our planet green, or get rid of the negative effects of global warming, all of us should promote the use of energy saving light bulbs to the rest of the word.

Being a reputed and well established company, we wish to serve our customers only with the bets and thus conduct various tests on our lamps and bulbs to test their energy star rating. we own certification from the US government as being highly efficient technologies for residential, commercial and industrial lighting applications. We are a quality store and our quality lighting products are a consequence of the fact that it is part of the Energy Saver Lights, Inc. family of companies a manufacturer with extensive know-how in the manufacturing of excellent energy efficient lighting products for a wide variety of energy saving applications.

Energy saver lights conducted a test in a laboratory accredited by the national voluntary laboratory accreditation program to conduct an energy star test to test minimum efficacy on its GU24 CFL lamps. The minimum efficacy of taken in lumens/watt (as per the initial data)

In this test the bulbs were tested for initial Elevated Temperature Light Output Ratio. In this test conducted on light bulbs, Product will meet the minimum requirement of maintaining 90% of initial rated light output. The requirements of the test was 1 unit per model, base-up position.

The second test carried on the fluorescent bulbs was Elevated Temperature 1,000-hour Lumen Maintenance. Average lumen output measurement of the 10 lamps tested must be greater than 90% of initial (100-hour) lumen output @ 1,000 hours of life, and no more than 2 individual samples can have a lumen output measurement less than 85%. The requirements of this test were 10 units per model, all base-up position.

The last test that was conducted on the light bulbs is Elevated Temperature Lumen Maintenance at 40% of Rated Life. In this test Average of the 10 samples tested must be greater than 80% of initial (100-hour) rating at 40% of model’s rated life (Per ANSI C78.5, Clause 4.10), and no more than 3 individual samples can have a lumen output less than 75%. The requirements of this test were 10 units per model, all base-up position.

Top 10 Tips to Start Saving Money and Energy in Your Commercial Kitchen Today

Energy conservation is a hot topic these days from restaurants to cafeterias to university dining halls. A recent ENERGY STAR® survey found that restaurant owners could increase profits up to 30% by simply “going green” in the kitchen. These top 10 savings tips will help you reduce the cost in your energy bill while maximizing profit dollars.

Just like leaving the lights on in your home, leaving equipment to run idly will cost you hundreds of dollars for unused energy. By turning off your inactive equipment, it saves energy and plenty of cash on your next gas, electric, or water bill. For those times when you forget to turn off equipment after closing, electrical timers can be placed on outlets to automatically flip off equipment when you aren’t around.

Typical equipment left on overnight or during idle kitchen hours are griddles, French tops, ranges, convection ovens, and dish machines. These can all have timers placed between their power outlets and cords to turn them off when you forget.

Energy Saver #1: Even if you remember to turn off some equipment, other side tools are often forgotten. For instance, after you turn off your dish machine, don’t forget to turn off the booster heater.

Energy Saver #2: You can’t turn the whole griddle off, but you can turn off some of the burners during slower business hours. Turn off all the griddle burners except leaving one burner on for off-peak hours. This will save you energy while still keeping kitchen services available.

Areas such as walk-in coolers or your dry store room don’t need to be illuminated all day long. Turning off lights as you leave typically unused areas is a great way to save money on your energy bill. Again, electrical timers can be used in these areas especially if they are commonly forgotten and left on overnight.

The kind of lighting you use makes a significant difference in your energy consumption too. Florescent lighting uses 1/4 to 1/3 less energy than normal bright lights. Replacing bulbs with higher efficient options will show a lower cost in your monthly bill.

Energy Saver #3: Higher efficiency bulbs can be used in areas that require constant lighting. Replace incandescent lights in your walk in cooler with fluorescent lights which are cooler and consume less energy.

The US Green Building Council has developed LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification, a national standard for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings which in turn generates energy savings. These standards have been embraced by US schools from kindergarten to high school. T&S Faucets are designed to support these new standards by promoting efficient water usage in hand sinks, prep sinks and cleanup sinks. When replacing kitchen equipment, make sure to purchase products that contribute to these new standards to help you reduce energy costs.

Energy Saver #4: Replace older faucets with the newly developed models that conserve water without compromising performance. You can find a list of endorsed products on the official Green Restaurant Association web site.

Energy Saver #5: Using a standard dishwasher to clean dishes is sufficient for glassware and other kitchen equipment. Don’t pre-wash dishes. It’s often unnecessary, wasting water and energy and increasing operational costs.

Are your menu items being prepped and cooked as efficiently as possible? Items that need to be thawed for daily food service can be defrosted in a refrigerator overnight instead of under running water reducing energy usage and conserving water. Review your menu to see if there are common ingredients or items that can all come from one source. Minimizing the number of individual deliveries you receive weekly will add to your conservation practices and reduce your delivery expenses as well as receiving time when you can be going in and out of cold storage using additional energy to bring it back to safe temperatures.

Keeping equipment properly maintained has valuable cost efficient benefits. Although a habit for some restaurant owners to let equipment run until a major problem arises, having equipment serviced regularly can catch operational problems. Small problems can become high cost issues through poor performance or a need for greater amounts of energy to maintain required temperatures for cooking, or cooling foods. Keeping equipment maintained also helps eliminate break downs that cause down time where you may need to use an inefficient cooking method as an alternative until your equipment is repaired or replaced.

Energy Saver #6: Delime your steamer regularly to save energy by making your boiler run as efficiently as possible and extending your equipment life.

Setting up a nightly cleaning routine will help you keep equipment running properly so ranges, ovens, and refrigerators perform at their peak efficiency. Clogged burners, for instance, use more energy to heat and cook food. By unclogging burners, you keep your range using less energy to work at maximum performance.

Gaskets on kitchen ovens become cruddy and build up residue that intrudes on the seal between the rubber and the metal. Allowing outside air to enter the oven requires more energy to keep the oven temperature set. Keep ovens and their doors clean to allow them to heat more efficiently.

Energy Saver #7: Vacuuming refrigerator coils keeps the cooling machinery operating at maximum efficiency. Cleaning coils and keeping dust and materials from building up around them will keep your refrigerator running more efficiently and use less energy.

Busy kitchen staff may often forget to do the simplest of energy efficient steps. Leaving oven doors open releases vast amounts of heat. Each time you open an oven door the temperature can drop by as much as 25o F.; watch the clock and use a timer instead. Don’t leave the convection oven or steamer door open too long or it will just continue to release heat, burning unnecessary energy to retain the proper cooking temperature. The walk-in cooler is another door that needs to be shut at all times or cooling becomes a continuous energy pit.

Energy Saver #8: If doors such as the walk-in cooler are consistently left open, place spring hinges on the doors and it will automatically close, eliminating the opportunity for staff to forget to shut the door.

Smaller volume kitchens can use smaller capacity equipment. For instance, steaming small portions of vegetables can be done in the microwave instead of a large capacity steamer.

When choosing from the variety of product manufacturers and standard size equipment, purchase only the size that you need to maximize output while minimizing energy usage. Large production equipment isn’t needed if the kitchen doesn’t have a high volume of customers.

Buy equipment that is Energy Star Certified. This is a quick and easy way to identify equipment that will keep energy costs down but still provide a quality cooking experience. To review a list of more than 1,000 energy efficient food service items and about 500 pieces of Energy Star equipment, visit the official Manitowoc web site.

Energy Saver #9: When washing dishes in a dishwasher, only run the machine when it is full. This will limit the amount of times the dishwasher is run, greatly decreasing energy costs and water consumption.

For older kitchens, saving money means replacing old equipment. Although the cost is high in the beginning, over time you earn that money back in utility bills. Newer technologies have been created with energy savings in mind.

“Go green” has gone from a small-time idea to a globally accepted concept. You can find plenty of highly efficient restaurant equipment at CooksDirect.com or other online distributors. They can help you replace old equipment notorious for high energy consumption like dishwashers and ovens with newer, more efficient products.

Many cities and counties offer energy saving incentives for individuals and corporations who choose to go green. Besides saving hundreds of dollars on your utility bills, you can get money back rebates from the government. To find out more information, visit www.energystar.gov or contact your local city government for a list of rebates offered by federal and city governments.

Energy Saver #10: Be sure to check in with your local government offices to take advantage of government incentives and tax benefits for any of the steps you take in your kitchen to reduce your energy usage, such as the energy star equipment rebates. These incentives go straight to your bottom line, while the steps you take provide continuous benefits for your operation and the environment.

Question by Mr.LandHeart: Do energy saver light bulbs actually work?
I replaced all my light bulbs in my house 2 months ago with energy saver bulbs. I used to have 60 watt bulbs and we left the lights on in every room all day long.

I went from thirty 60 watt lights to thirty 13 watt lights, which means I’m saving 1410 watts every month. Also I started turning off lights religiously. There’s just one problem…

Alabama Power is saying that I’m only saving 19 watts per month. That doesn’t make sense!

Best answer:

Answer by Brad D
You need to leave the lights on longer

The Cheapest Way to Make Your Home Energy Efficient

With fuel prices soaring through the roof, people are making several changes in their lifestyle to lower energy consumption. With transportation, this has lead to electric and hybrid cars but there are home improvements that can cut your energy costs as well. For example, homeowners are starting to invest in more storm windows, new furnaces and programmable thermostats than before because they are energy savers that can help lower utility bills. Unfortunately, most people overlook the need for more insulation because it is hidden inside of their walls.

Insulation can make a huge difference in your home’s energy efficiency though; especially in the attic where a lot of heat is lost and gained. Insulation is graded on a scale of R-values. The higher you can bring the R-value in your walls and roof, the better protected you will be from the extreme temperatures outside.

Unfortunately, when homes are built, contractors are only required to use a minimal amount of insulation during construction. The result is a cold house in winter and a hot house in the summer. If you want to lower your heating and cooling costs, one of the best ways to do it is install additional insulation.

What if the home is already built?

You don’t need to tear down existing walls to install additional insulation because it comes in many forms. One of the most versatile and user-friendly products is called Cocoon Insulation. Since this product has been made from recycled newspaper, it is non-hazardous and light-weight. This makes it easy to handle and install. As a loose insulation product it can also be retrofitted into existing walls through small holes that can be easily patched and hidden.

Other Benefits of Insulation

In addition to improving energy retention, Cocoon Insulation can make your home a quieter place by blocking unwanted outside noises. It has also been treated to resist loose fire and insects. This means that you will be safer as well as more comfortable with Cocoon Insulation lining your walls.

Affordability

For the rewards that insulation provides, it is also a very affordable way to make home improvements. And, compared to buying a new furnace or replacing windows, adding insulation costs a fraction of the price. Adding insulation doesn’t take a lot of time either. Depending on the size of your home, you could have everything insulated in a couple of days. Most insulation products can be self-installed, but a few may require professional service.

Candle type decorative lamps energy star testing

All of us are aware of the dearth that we are soon going to face because of less availability of energy resources. With the introduction of power saving equipments, we can now participate in saving energy and hence keeping the environment healthy, clean and green. with our power saving lamps and bulbs you get an assurance of quality as we made them pass through various tests that enable them to offer the kind of efficiency and output we promise to our customers. Energy saver lights retained National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation (NVLAP) to test and verify the performance of their candle type decorative lamps over several criteria to ensure its efficiency. Tests Performed on the products included:

Lamp Power (Watts): The power of the bulbs was calculated by using the formula Lumens/watt (Based on initial lumen data). In this test 10 units of fluorescent light bulbs were taken. Out of which 5 units were base up and the rest were base down except when the use and position of the candle lamps is restricted. All the 10 sample bulbs were tested in a restricted position.

1,000-hour Lumen maintenance: This test is conducted to test the samples for average lumen output and it must come out to be greater than 90% of initial (100 hour) lumen output @ 1000 hours of rated life. It is ensured than no more than 2 samples can have a lumen output measurement of less than 85%. The 10 samples units had 5 units were base up and the rest were base down except when the use and position of the candle lamps is restricted. All the 10 samples were tested in a restricted position.

Lumen Maintenance at 40% of Rated Life: the test is carried on all the 10 sample light bulbs out of which had 5 units were base up and the rest were base down except when the use and position of the light bulbs is restricted. All the 10 sample bulbs were tested in a restricted position. The test is conducted to evaluate the average rated life which must be must be greater than 80% of initial (100-hour) rating at 40% of model’s rated life (Per ANSIC78.5, Clause 4.10), and no more than 3 individual samples can have a lumen output less than 75%.

Products included in testing: 10 candle type decorative bulbs

ENERGY STAR qualified products and practices help you save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. DOE. The ENERGY STAR label also designates superior energy performance in homes and buildings. Energy Saver Lights is proud to offer our customers products with the ENERGY STAR label.

Energy Saving ? Gadgets and Gizmos

We are constantly being told to save energy and to think more about the environment. And most of us appreciate the importance of reducing greenhouse emissions in a bid to control climate change.

But, saving energy can be difficult and many people are put off thinking it means feeling colder in the winter, using the car less and sitting in the gloom of an evening.

Energy saving doesn’t have to be so troublesome. In fact, there are many energy-saving products that can help us reduce our energy consumption but also help us to save money too.

Energy saving gadgets work under one of three key principles: Efficiency, eliminating waste or monitoring our use.

Perhaps the most practical energy saving device is the energy saving light-bulb. Because of the amount of lights in our homes, and the need for electric lighting at night, the cumulative savings of switching incandescent bulbs for energy saving ones can be quite dramatic.

While more expensive to buy initially, energy saving lightbulbs pay for themselves many times over throughout the life of the bulbs.

Many of the modern appliances we use at home, such as the TV, DVD player, computer, Hi-Fi and a myriad of other gadgets, often have stand-by modes. Stand-by, actually still consumes power, sometimes as much as a quarter than it does while switched on. This is a terrible waste of energy and while the ability of having these devices spring into life at the touch of a remote button is convenient, it is still wasteful.

Stand-by savers can shut down these devices without the need for you to rummage around with in the plug sockets. Nearly all modern appliances with a stand-by function can be hooked up to a stand-by saver which will save both energy and money without you even noticing.

Another way of identifying waste and inefficient appliances is to monitor energy. Energy and electricity monitors can help you keep an eye on a household, or business energy consumption enabling you to identify high usage devices and wasted power.

Be a Responsible Human Being, Be An Electricity Saver!

Did you know that even if we constantly use electricity for lights, air-conditioner, television or whatever electric appliance we have, we can still be an electricity saver? We just need to make a conscious effort to make electricity saving a part of our everyday lives and shift to more sustainable means.

To appreciate how you can become an electricity saver, first, some general information on electricity. Most electricity used in average homes comes from traditional power plants that uses water, heat (coal) or on some case, nuclear energy. However, even if you are conscious of electricity saving, if your electricity comes from these energy sources, you are still contributing to degradation of nature.

These are the usual sources of electricity that unfortunately produce by-products that are considered harmful to the environment.

At the same time, fossil fuels that are used in coal power plants are non-renewable energy sources. This means that it would be very hard to replenish these resources if we are to use them more. If you consume energy from these source, you need all the more be an electricity saver because these energy sources get depleted rapidly if you use it up more.

Hence, the more electricity we consume, the more by-products are developed, the more we deplete these hard-to-replace natural resources, and in the end we put our environment at risk all the more. By being an electricity saver you and I can help reduce the carbon footprint in our mother earth.

The question is, does electricity saving that include decreasing consumption of electricity by using electricity saver or energy saver devices, enough? The answer is a big No.

The real and authentic electricity saver and environmentally sound option is the use of alternative or renewable energy. For instance by using the energy of the sun, you can become an energy saver. Solar panels make use of the sun’s energy which is considered the ultimate renewable energy because it can never be exhausted.

Our sun can actually provide more than the energy requirement of the entire world, if only we know how to effectively use this energy saver. Unfortunately, only a fraction of the population makes full use of this energy source.

Many people do not realize that the cost of solar power is much cheaper than usual sources of electricity. This electricity saving option is even regarded as the best energy saver, among all the options. Just think about the electricity saving that we all will generate if we can harness the full power of the sun. Hence, solar panel can be an electricity saver in the real sense.

Be an energy saver and use LED lamps instead of the conventional light bulbs, or start using solar powered lamps, cars, heaters and panels. These are all electricity saving generators that are available in the market today. Recognizing the importance of solar energy, today’s technology has developed electricity saver tools that use energy more efficiently.

Another “scientific” approach to electricity saving is the use of qualitative method where electricity usage is analyzed.

Another form of renewable and green energy that can be considered an electricity saver is the energy coming from the wind. Especially on those region where the sun does not shine that much, wind energy is a good option.

Even the federal government recognizes the need to save energy and promote electricity saver. For instance, the government offers tax breaks for those who conduct research on electricity saving.

As an effective energy saver tool, tariff structures are imposed on commercial electrical companies. There are also various laws that support the use of solar panels as electricity saver. This helps consumers be more conscious of the wattage they spend and focus more on electricity saving.

In our own little ways, we can all pitch in on electricity saving. By being an energy saver, you do not just help lower your electricity bills you also contribute in saving our planet. Be an electricity saver and you will realize how proud it feels to be one!

Many modern equipments have been devised which function as electricity saver. Many of them are used in households which we are all aware of. Even a small step towards electricity saving can make a huge contribution globally.

Home Improvement Energy Savers: Fireplaces

There is definitely something elegant and cozy that fireplaces add to almost any home. However, even though they are a great addition, they are also a lot of work.

You see many people don’t take that some important things into consideration when they have fireplaces installed or when they buy a house that has one or more of them. For instance, consider the following points.

Drafts / Heat Loss

If you don’t end up using them, you have to have them covered up. If you don’t do anything at all with them, they can cost you money on your energy bills due to a loss of heat and drafting issues.

If you ignore your fireplaces and are not using them, you may find that you have a draft in the wintertime and that your bills are higher than they need to be. You should always have someone come in to close up your fireplaces if you don’t intend to use them any time soon.

If you think you may use them again in the future, make sure you find someone who can close them up so you may open them again when you wish to start using them again. Some ways of closing up fireplaces are permanent, so make sure you are specific about what you want done.

Maintenance

If you do use fireplaces, they require maintenance. When you actively use your fireplaces, you have to remember to keep them clean. They can be a fire hazard as well, and that means you have to have someone come in to check and clean your chimney at least once a year if not more. You have to keep the ashes cleaned out, and it will add a certain aroma to your home that you may or may not like.

If you don’t mind all of those things, you certainly should have fireplaces and use them if you want to. However, don’t just use them and then ignore the upkeep or you could be putting your home in danger of burning down.

Overall, fireplaces can be great additions to the home, though most only use them once in a while. Safety is an important issue, as many lose their homes to fires because they did not care for them the right way. Always have the number of a good chimney sweep company on hand, and know what to look for if there may be problems. If smoke starts backing up into your home when you use them, you may have blockage that needs to be addressed immediately.

Great Deals on Fireplaces

You don’t even need to leave now to find good deals on fireplaces today. Search online with keywords to describe what you would like at top search engines like MSN.com or Yahoo.com. For example, enter, “brick wood burning fireplace” and even enter your area (city, state) to zero in on the closest for cheaper delivery rates.

Then review sites that turn on in the online engines, comparing not only price, but quality, customer service and professionalism. For instance, does customer service answer the phone when you dial? Or is there no number, only a PO Box?
